He began chasing storms and tornadoes in the spring of 1986 alongside his older brother. During that time, they were both still pursuing their college degrees. They witnessed a supercell thunderstorm that spring that finally produced a tornado in central Oklahoma.
Throughout his career, he considers the devastating 2013 Moore EF5 tornado as the most memorable chase he ever did. He tracked, reported, and finaly helped in rescue and cleanup following the killer storm. In addition, Castor has also reported and tracked several of the most devastating recent hurricanes. In the last 12 years, castor and his partner Darren Stephens, tracked most of the gulf hurricanes. The hurricanes include Ike, Rita, Wilma, as well as Katrina.
During his leisure time, he enjoys landscape photography, shooting sports, golfing, fishing, as well as hunting.
