Eric Paulsen Career
Paulsen works at WWL-TV and WUPL-TV in New Orleans, as News Morning and Noon Anchor. He has been working with this station for more than 15 years. Eric is one of southeast Louisiana’s most familiar faces, the one folks have been getting up with for over 3 decades on the country’s number-one-rated local morning newscast. But when he first left his St. Louis hometown to enroll in broadcast journalism school at Southern Illinois University, he was more passionate about the off-camera side of the business.
Eric commenced WWL-TV’s Morning News and afterward went on to host the highly successful local version of the nationally syndicated show, PM Magazine. On PM Magazine, he was one of the major contributors to the national syndication of the program and one of the stories he’s most proud of was conducting the final broadcast interview with literary legend Tennessee Williams which was conducted on the 2nd floor of what was then “Marti’s” restaurant on the corner of Rampart Street.
Behind “PM’s” successful run, Eric returned in the fall of 1984 to the Eyewitness newsroom. He alone anchored the weekend newscasts for six months, prior to coming back to his first home on the morning show to join co-anchor Andre Trevigne. In another visionary stroke, GM Mike Early chose to develop the morning edition by a full hour, creating a 2-hour local block of news, weather, and features that quickly earned the show privileges as the country’s highest-rated morning broadcast – augmented by the unusual on-air chemistry between Andre and him.
While on the morning news, Eric was competent to land an interview with Fats Domino that went from more than a story to a friend that endures to this day. Off the anchor desk, he keeps a unique menagerie of turtles and other pets.
