Burnett works for WCVB Channel 5’s StormTeam 5, serving as a Meteorologist/Weather Producer.  He came to the team in 2016 and is proud to work and serve districts he calls “home.” A.J. has worked at a few television stations in New England, including WCSH6/WLBZ2 in Maine, WFXT in Boston, New England Cable News, as well as WCVB fellow Hearst station WMUR-TV in New Hampshire.

His profession has taken him into the elements of countless memorable storms, including the Blizzard of 2013, Super Storm Sandy,  the powerful January Nor’easter of 2018 (sometimes referred to as the “Bomb Cyclone”), and the Tornado Outbreak in western Massachusetts in 2011. A.J. is part of the American Meteorological Society and has the AMS Television Seal of Approval, presented for excellence in broadcast meteorology.

In 2022, A.J. obtained a regional Emmy award given by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Boston/New England Chapter for storm coverage during a Nor’easter. He has also been voted multiple times for his work with NewsCenter 5 and Chronicle teams reporting on climate change, including his contributions to the “Forecasting Our Future” franchise, an initiative throughout all Hearst Television stations to address issues Americans face in navigating changing weather patterns and their influence on local communities and economies.

Apart from his position at WCVB, A.J. takes part in a proud family tradition of volunteerism, emceeing a few local occasions and galas. He has operated with Birthday Wishes, a group committed to providing birthday parties to kids experiencing homelessness, and has been a sponsor of the Alzheimer’s Association chapters in Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire, having held a role on the Board of Directors. He also took part with the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA, documenting written works for the visually impaired.
