Ben has also served in Birmingham and Chattanooga, where he worked at News 19’s sister station, WIAT from 2001 to 2003. He also served as the Chief Meteorologist at WSAV in Savannah, Georgia for 4 years. From there, he served for WFTV in Orlando, Florida.
Ben has been involved in the direct landfalls of different hurricanes including Bonnie, Dennis, Bertha, Fran, and Floyd in 1999. Along with the WNCT staff, he was privileged to be awarded the prestigious National Edward R. Murrow Award for continuous coverage of Hurricane Floyd. Ben holds seals from the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society and also has the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal of approval as well.
