Previously Kern worked at WCTI in New Bern, North Carolina where she served as a reporter and fill-in anchor From April 2012 to September 2013. Christy covered Eastern Carolina, from Greenville to the Crystal Coast, and the two Marine Corps bases in the area.

Her first journalism class was at Orchard Park High School and decided it was the right fit. When she is away from her duty line Christy enjoys spending time with her husband and two cats, spending time at the beach, and cheering on the Buffalo Bills.
