He was selected as a fellow for Center for Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology (NCAS-M) Fellowship Program while at the university. Cartledge gained interest when he was 8 years old, when he and his father sat on the porch during a thunderstorm. He was able to learn how to count the seconds between the appearance of lightning and the sound of thunder to figure out whether the storm was getting closer or moving away.
Since then, Cartledge was introduced to live weather forecasts and he developed a passion in various severe storms that happen. He started yearning to learn how to explain different weather phenomena to the public. Cartledge is so happy to start educating people about the weather and breaking it down to them how it impacts all aspects of our lives. Other than meteorology, he is a Washington, D.C. sports fan and has played football, basketball, track & field and intramural sports in college
