As a journalist, he has won awards from the Press Club of New Orleans (including its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018), the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies, the Louisiana Press Association, and the Associated Press Association of Mississippi and Louisiana.

He also has been featured on numerous network radio and television talk shows, including “Washington Week in Review,” NPR, “Dateline NBC” “The Today Show,” and countless appearances on local radio talk shows. Clancy and his wife were recognized in 2008 with the “A.I. Botnick Torch of Liberty Award,” the highest award bestowed by the South-Central Region of the Anti-Defamation League. In 2003, Clancy was named UNO’s “Homer Hitt Distinguished Alumnus of the Year.” In 2012, he was voted one of “Alumnus of the Year” by Holy Cross School and “Ten Outstanding Persons” by Family Services of New Orleans.

Clancy also was an original part of the Board of Directors of KIDsmART, a non-profit arts education institution serving inner-city youth in New Orleans. He served for 9 years as a board member of the Visitors Bureau and the New Orleans Metropolitan Convention, and he served for fifteen years on the board of directors of Holy Cross School, including a 2-year stint as chairperson of the board during and after Hurricane Katrina. Clancy presently serves on the Visiting Committee of Loyola Law School.
