During his childhood, Cubby spent most of his time fishing and catching frogs, turtles, and crawdads. After High School, he joined the college in hopes of becoming a history professor but came to discover it wasn’t the right fit. He pursued a variety of jobs and worked full-time, trying to find the right occupation path.
At first, he started serving as a bartender and dishwasher and worked his way up to becoming a chef. Later on, he tried an office job and worked as an embroidery department manager. Then he tried carpentry, videography, and wedding photography.
After his friend’s death due to Cancer, Cubby and his wife sold everything they had. They bought a camper, relocated to Missouri, and began a homestead of their own. While there Cubby created his own traditional archery company.
Nowadays, Cubby serves as a full-time bowyer and homesteader. He narrates it’s the hardest job he’s ever had but has all the time on earth to spend time with his family.

Premiered on 13th June 2024, The HISTORY Channel’s series Alone season 11 featured ten contestants as they headed to the northernmost areas in the show’s history – the freezing, brutal landscape of Inuvik, Canada, north of the Arctic Circle.
Each competitor had to select 10 items from the list of allowable gear (sourcing and purchasing it themselves), including not more than two food items and no repeats of an item. However, here are the 10 items Cubby chose to bring on his survival journey to the unforgiving Arctic Circle;
