He wore number 14 in honor of his dad – hs father wore the same number while playing softball. In the year 2011, T.F. South retired his jersey to honor him.

Granderson played college baseball at the University of Illinois at Chicago and was drafted by the Tigers in the year 2002. He made his MLB debut in 2004 and became a 3-time All-Star. He retired after the season of the year 2019, winning a Silver Slugger in the year 2011.
