Marries has been serving as the evening news anchor since he joined the KOLD in Tucson, Arizona in 1999. Dan began his television career in 1995 while he was still studying at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado. His internship opened the doors for his job in journalism as the e morning anchor and noon weatherman. In addition, he journalism career has taken him from Mankato, MN, Yuma and finally Tucson. While he was in college, he served as a wildland firefighter for the Bureau of Land Management for four summers. Furthermore, he is actively involved in the community as he is the charter president of the Casas Adobes Optimist Club.

The Casas Adobes Optimist Club has adopted upwards of 30 less-fortunate families during Christmas for the past couple of years. He is also a founding trustee board member of the Greater Tucson Fire Foundation that helps the local fire community with; equipment, advanced training, funding, tools, and education campaigns to support these brave men and women. In addition, each year Marries volunteers during Love of Reading Week whereby he spends time with children and informs them of the need for education. Dan also often visits the Southern Arizona VA Medical Center where he thanks them for their service.

Marries has also been serving as the official announcer for the Tucson Veteran’s Day Parade and the Tucson Rodeo Parade telecast for the past 11 years. Over the years, he has received many awards as a journalist including two Emmys and has also won a Communicator’s Award for a rodeo story on legendary Ty Murray, and Ty’s efforts to give retired bucking horses a place to live. The Arizona Associated Press has recognized him for a number of times.
