In college and high school, Gordon served as a newscaster and DJ at radio stations in Iron Mountain and Mt Pleasant, MI, and commenced his work in television as a reporter and photographer at WWTV in Cadillac-Traverse City, Michigan, while still in college. He also served as weekend anchor and then morning anchor at WKBN in Youngstown, Ohio, and then shifted to WXYZ in Detroit, where he served as a reporter and fill-in anchor.

Gordon has won six Emmy awards, including the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Emmy for best news anchor, and has twenty other Emmy nominations, including seven in the best reporter and best anchor categories. He has also been acknowledged with Edward R. Murrow, Associated Press, Michigan Association of Broadcasters, and Golden Quill awards in breaking news, features, and best reporter categories. Among the most notable stories of his profession is the western Pennsylvania flood of 2004, when he and his photographer saw the dramatic rescue of a deaf and physically impaired lady who was entangled in her car in floodwaters.

Gordon also covered some of the largest stories in Pittsburgh over the last twenty years, including anchoring live coverage of the Fern Hollow Bridge collapse and the mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue. He also reported live in the aftermath of everything from floods, tornadoes, and winter storms to house explosions and presidential visits. Gordon also journeyed to report gubernatorial and U.S. Senate election night results in Harrisburg, Allentown, York, and Philadelphia, and the New Hampshire Presidential Primary.

He was also in Philadelphia for the fatal Amtrak train crash, and in Blacksburg, VA for the Virginia Tech shooting massacre. Gordon was one of the first reporters on the scene of the Sago mine disaster and the LA Fitness shooting spree and was on the streets reporting during the G-20 protests. He also toured Vatican City to report the death of Pope John Paul II and covered Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Washington D.C. Gordon has also followed Pittsburgh sports lovers all over the country for Steelers’ Super Bowl games in Tampa, Detroit, and Dallas, and the Penguins’ Stanley Cup Finals, including the team’s visit to the White House.

He also covered live from the Winter Classics in Philadelphia, Chicago, and Pittsburgh. Gordon volunteers for countless local charity events.
