He works with his Bad Pants Open Golf Tournament in the fall and with the annual Polar Plunge in the winter. In the past 14 years, Ian has helped raise over $20 million for Special Olympics Minnesota through it and he does not plan to stop anytime soon.

In 2016, Leonard lost a part of his lower lip due to squamous cell cancer. His journey with squamous cell skin cancer. He noticed a small painful red bump on his lower lip and went to the doctor during his appointment he received confirmation after a biopsy.From there he underwent the MOHs surgery session that lasted for 5 hours with 7 separate surgical procedures to remove the cancer in his lower lip
