Jacob attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences Education with a Secondary Teaching License in May of 2015. He also recently completed his Master’s degree in Professional Meteorology with a focus on Broadcast from Mississippi State University (MSU).  At MSU, Jacob’s research concentrates on the public’s knowledge and perceptions of tornadoes with the purpose of identifying more at-risk population groups and creating strategies to reach the public before and during severe weather.

Over the past decade, Jacob has been very involved in the community and with education. He was part of Alpha Tau Alpha, serving as Chapter President his Senior year at the University of Illinois, a student teacher for an Agricultural Education Instructor, and an FFA Advisor in Orion, Illinois.  Jacob also has endorsements to teach secondary science and mathematics.  As a graduate student, he was a part of the local chapter of the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society, and he was active with Cru at Mississippi State.  Jacob also was involved in the local FFA Alumni in Starkville, Mississippi, and acted as Keynote Speaker at the 2018 Mississippi FFA State Convention.

Prior to arriving home to WCIA 3 News, he served as a weekend and field meteorologist for WCBI-tv in Columbus, Mississippi for three years until February 2020.  He then was appointed the acting Chief Meteorologist for KSWO 7 News in Southwest Oklahoma prior to coming home to Central Illinois.  While at WCBI, Jacob was involved in growing the station’s presence online and on social media, concentrating on severe weather awareness and preparation.  While there, he chased storms in the field for the station during some of Mississippi’s biggest tornado outbreaks.  Jacob has witnessed countless hurricanes and tropical storms,

In the last 15 years, Jacob has seen countless tornadoes and severe storms throughout the United States.  Jacob also has interned with a few TV weather professionals including Chief Meteorologist James Spann at ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, AL, Chief Meteorologist Damon Lane at KOCO-tv in Oklahoma City, and with Meteorologist Jack Gerfen at WCIA 3 News in Champaign, IL, and Chief Meteorologist Derick Fabert.

Jacob is an avid lover of the outdoors. He enjoys beach volleyball, running, biking, kayaking, reading books, taking road trips,  exercising in general, and keeping an eye on the sky.  He is a fan of the Chicago Cubs, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Green Bay Packers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Oklahoma State Cowboys.  Jacob also enjoys baking and cooking, and he loves eating at local restaurants.
