As a youngster, Kevin shot weather videos with his parents’ camcorder as storms approached and acted to be a weatherman on TV and there was no doubt he would have his dream of becoming a real weatherman come true soon.
As Kevin got older, he became a storm spotter in Indianapolis for the National Weather Service and got his first start in broadcasting in Danville, IL at D-102 and 94.9 K-Rock as a radio DJ at the age of 17. Kevin got his first crack at TV weather broadcasting while enrolling at Vincennes University where he earned his Associate of Arts degree in Radio/TV Broadcasting from Vincennes. While there, he served as a weather anchor for the PBS station WVUT.
After graduating from Vincennes University, Kevin accepted a television job at the CBS station WTHI Channel 10 in Terre Haute, IN where he spent over three years as the weather anchor. While working at WTHI, he enrolled at Indiana State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physical Geography with a minor in Climatology and a focus in Meteorology.
His next position was at WKYT in Lexington, Kentucky where he served as the morning meteorologist and storm chaser for 2 years, followed by a short time doing fill-in weather for WRTV in Indianapolis. In July of 2007, Kevin then went to Springfield, MO to become the Chief Meteorologist at KSPR where he worked for 10 years and accomplished countless things during his tenure.
While at KSPR, he reported on the Joplin, MO EF-5 tornado, storm chased with the Vortex 2 research team, earned an award for best weathercast in Missouri 7 out of his 10 years, and had 2 Emmy nominations. Kevin was also a member of the team that earned a national Edward R. Murrow award for Best Newscast on the evening of the Branson Leap Day tornadoes in 2012.
Kevin also has the seal of approval from both the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society. Storm tracking is one of his favorite things to do when he has the opportunity. He has seen countless tornadoes while tracking in the Plains over the last decade.
In his spare time, Kevin enjoys watching or playing nearly any sport. He is a Giant Cubs lover and most recently enjoyed watching game 7 of the World Series in Wrigleyville. He’s also a lover of the Blackhawks and Chicago Bears, but being from Indiana, he would pick the Indiana Pacers as his favorite basketball team. Kevin has multiple unique hobbies including being a DJ at weddings and parties. He also is a licensed FAA commercial drone pilot. Kevin is also a ham radio operator, call sign WX9KSL.
