He considers predicting weather exciting, important, and fun responsibility. Stiff was born and brought up in Montana and has always loved living and working in the western United States. He worked in Idaho, Washington, New Mexico, and Utah before moving to California.
In 2005, the American Meteorological Society (AMS) awarded him the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation, and in 1998 the original AMS Seal of Approval. He obtained both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in meteorology from the University of Utah. Being an undergraduate, he has also worked for the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City for four years.
When his not predicting the weather, he enjoys watching and playing sports, for example, basketball, golf, and football. He also loves music, movies, and working out. At night he likes looking up at the sky, stars and planets. Stiff loves sharing the importance of science education and his interest in weather with students and other groups.
