John is passionate about San Diego’s sports community and telling their stories and he is the longest-tenured full-time television sportscaster in the San Diego market. He has deep roots in southern California as a 6th-generation Californian. Howard began his broadcasting career in Roseburg, Oregon where he served as a general news anchor and reporter. Afterward, he was quickly promoted to news director. Later after two years of general news, Howard knew his calling was sports.
Howard began his first sports job in Rapid City, South Dakota. Later he came back to California and landed a job in San Luis Obispo. He was at first hired as a weekend sportscaster and afterward, John was promoted to Sports Director at each of those stations. He also interned at KNSD and KGTV. Away from sports anchoring, John loves playing golf, wakeboarding, riding his motorcycle, and skiing. While skiing, he has raced competitively at San Diego State.
