Smith works at WXYZ as an anchor. Before joining the station, he made several other stops in the Midwest, including CLTV, in Chicago WGN, and WEEK-TV in Peoria, Illinois. He began his career at WGAL, the dominant NBC affiliate in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Smith began as an intern and a few months later he was anchoring cut-ins overnight.
He left Lancaster to take a job at NBC News in New York City to work “behind the scenes” where he worked for NBC’s New York News Bureau and Dateline NBC. Later on, he relocated to on-camera work at WZBN in Trenton, New Jersey, and Raleigh, North Carolina.
He obtained a Dual Master’s degree from Princeton University in New Jersey after graduating from Franklin and Marshall College. Later on, he joined Penn State, the College of DuPage, Portland State, and Oklahoma State and studied meteorology. He holds the AMS Seal of Approval and was chosen as a full member of the American Meteorological Society. Smith was nominated for a Midwest Regional Emmy Award for Best Weather.
