Clifford anchors the 4, 6, and 11 pm newscasts at WXYZ. In September 2021, she was inducted into the Michigan Broadcasting Hall of Fame as well as awarded the 2021 Michigan Association of Broadcasters Broadcast Excellence Award winner for Best News Anchor. She was born and brought up in the city of Detroit and grew up on the northwest side. At Michigan State University, she graduated and obtained her degree in Broadcast Journalism.

From spending time in MSU’s Army ROTC, she learned mental toughness. The WXYZ hired her to anchor during the weekends and work as the station’s health reporter. Detroit started waking up with Clifford by May 2002 when she joined the “7 Action News This Morning” team. She gave up her daily duties as Channel 7’s Health Reporter when she became the co-anchor of 7 Action News at 11 pm.
Clifford spent 13 years informing Detroiters about the effects they have on their community and the latest developments in medical science. She also hosted the multiple Emmy-nominated half-hour health programs called “Healthy Living Sunday.” Before joining the station she worked for WPGH-TV in Pittsburgh PA where she anchored the 10 p.m. newscast.
Prior to that, she anchored the 10 p.m. news at WLFL-TV in Raleigh, NC. She worked in both Orlando, FL, and Lansing, MI. Clifford was the only news anchor in Michigan to be invited to the White House to interview President Obama about the Iran Nuclear Deal and was among a handful of journalists selected from across the country in 2015.
Her most memorable moments in broadcasting include interviewing NBA legends Michael Jordan and Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Barbara Walters, and Oprah Winfrey. She has reported everything from hurricanes in North Carolina to former South African President Nelson Mandela’s first visit to Michigan after he was freed from prison. Stories that have helped change the lives of viewers are Clifford’s most rewarding stories whether finding free mammogram test sites for women in need or offering free flu shots during a national shortage.
The YWCA of Western Wayne County has named her “Woman of the Year.” For her community and volunteer work in the Metro Detroit area, she has also been honored by the Detroit City Council and Detroit Urban League. Speaking out against domestic violence at numerous area events is one of her passions. Personally, she has helped many victims of domestic violence. For her reporting and anchoring work at 7 Action News, she has received many professional accolades.
Clifford is a 20-time Emmy Award winner, including three Emmys for Best News Anchor. The Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Associated Press have honored her and has been given a special tribute as one of their “Heroes of Breast Cancer” by the Karmanos Cancer Institute. She dreamt of dancing on Broadway, before embarking on a career in TV news.
