She returned to the Channel 3 News team on the 31st of Aug. 2021, where she previously served as the Weekend News Anchor and General Assignments Reporter from 2000 to 2008. Lydia was appointed as 3News’ Justice/Crime Correspondent in the fall of 2022.

Before coming back to Ohio in 1997, Lydia served as the Community Affairs Manager at WCIX-TV in Miami, Florida. She moved to Georgia serving as a Reporter and Anchor at WFXL-TV in Albany before becoming the Bureau Chief at WTVM-TV in Columbus, Georgia. During her time there, she performed several interviews with former President Jimmy Carter and shook hands with Yasser Arafat, a Palestinian National Authority President before a meeting with Carter at his Plains, Georgia, residence. In addition to President Carter, Lydia met with President Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and Vice President Dan Quayle, and interviewed President George W. Bush.

Lydia received worldwide exposure in May 2013 and an Emmy nomination for local and national television coverage of the kidnapping and escape of Gina DeJesus, Michelle Knight, and Amanda Berry. She first reported on the story for WKYC in 2004 when Gina didn’t return home from school and kept artifacts on her desk throughout the years to never forget. Lydia was the first news reporter to be given an interview with Gina at her home and has been interviewed for many documentaries for her work on the story.

Lydia became the first Latina news reporter at a Cleveland television station in 1997. In 2004, she was inaugurated into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame (Akron, Ohio), and in 2007, she earned an Emmy for Outstanding Weekend Newscast. In 2012, she received the Robert G. McGruder Diversity in Media Distinguished Leadership Award from Kent State University. In 2014, she was appointed the “Ohio Television News Anchor of the Year” by the La Voz Media Alliance and earned the Coretta Scott King Award from the NAACP 34-AB. Lydia was also honored with the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association Media Award for her coverage of Georgia State Prison reforms.
