Before that, Matt served as an award-winning and Emmy-nominated reporter at KWTX-TV.

He was first on the ground to report the pathetic fertilizer plant explosion in West, TX that proclaimed the lives of 15 individuals and wrapped the story for weeks as the residents struggled to recover. Matt also was one of the first reporters to report the second fatal shooting at Fort Hood in 2014 where four were killed. His reporting on that story enabled KWTX-TV to win two regional Emmys. Matt’s job on a terrifying bus crash in 2013 made him First Place for Spot News by the Texas Associated Press. His reporting on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice lately honored him with an Emmy nomination for highlighting female inmates who make thousands of Braille pages for blind Texas students every year.

After graduating from Baylor University, Matt interned at WFAA-TV and WABC-TV in New York City. He was an associate producer with an inquiry team that returned thousands of dollars in reimbursement to consumers. Matt is an avid runner and enjoys depleting trout streams with his fly rod. He is also a lover of music, great food, and storytelling.
