Estaphan serves as a reporter and producer for WCVB Channel 5’s Chronicle, the country’s longest-running and top-rated locally-produced news magazine which airs weeknights on WCVB at 7:30 PM. Nicole came to WCVB NewsCenter 5 in January 2016 as a freelance news reporter. While at WCVB, Nicole also spent some time over the last two years working on the Marine Ecosystems Study (NAAMES) documentary project and NASA’s North Atlantic Aerosols, including shooting two full months in the North Atlantic. It was the first time a journalist was entrenched for that length of time with a NASA mission at sea. Nicole is also done producing for The Discovery Channel.
Prior to joining WCVB, she worked in Utica, New York; Providence, Rhode Island; Burlington, Vermont; and most recently Atlanta, Georgia at WAGA-TV FOX 5. During her time in the South, she performed the last televised interview with poet Maya Angelou. Nicole’s job also included Georgia-based reporting for “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.” While in Georgia, she earned state recognition for her series of information on a toxic neighborhood with a legacy of military waste dumping. The chemicals dumped behind were thought to be the cause of a cancer cluster. Though the military at no time admitted fault, Nicole’s covering led to immediate mitigation.
In addition to her charity job serving as event emcee for The Muscular Dystrophy Association, The National Brain Tumor Society, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Girls, Inc., Nicole volunteers at a dog rescue shelter in Dedham, MA. Without mistrust, and above all else, Nicole thinks that sharing our stories can be life-changing. Of all her work, inspiring younger generations is of utmost importance to her. Nicole is currently working on a program with the Children’s Smile Coalition, to support kids living in poverty find their voice and confidence via public speaking. She graduated from Emerson College in Boston with a master’s degree in journalism. When not working, it is a safe bet that you can catch her on the water or in the pottery studio.
