Nina and her team hit a milestone for channel 7 viewers by helping victims of Superstorm Sandy, and defrauded consumers gain back more than $1,000,000 through the station’s troubleshooting and consumer help unit at WABC-TV. She went to Syracuse University for pre-law studies but unfortunately graduated with a degree in communication and political science.
Her live coverage has taken her from the center of some of the worst natural disasters in Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy, in the United States, to some of the country’s most historic moments – the inauguration of President Barack Obama and the attacks. On September 11, 2001, a report on the World Trade Center helped Pineda and her colleagues at WABC and ABC News obtain the Peabody Award for Excellence in Journalism. Reel clips of her reports are forever kept as part of national history, preserved in a Smithsonian exhibit through the Senator John Heinz History Center in her hometown, Pittsburgh, PA.
She also participates in fundraises for various Asian American and Women’s organizations, including the New York Asian Women’s Center and the Women’s Rights and Information Center where Nina serves on the Board of Trustees and is also Active in the Tri-State charity community. Nina received the CUNY Asian role model of the Year Award in 2013. In 2014 Pineda was honored for her excellent work helping the victims of consumer fraud by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. Moreover, she was also recognized for helping victims of crime in Bergen County by Bergen County’s Executive Director in 2016.
