 Marriott works at KING 5 News based in Seattle, WA as a morning weathercaster. He came to KING 5 in 1987 as a meteorologist for KING 5 Weekend News and shifted to his current position in 1990. Rich has had the amazing experience of forecasting weather in Washington for almost 43 years, and he has had the honor to be part of KING 5 for more than 35 years.

During his time at King 5, he has had the good fortune to meet amazing people and has had unique experiences. Probably his most memorable moments have been flying with the Blue Angels (a lifetime experience) and assisting cover the Vancouver Winter Olympics (I still love snow). His one journalistic claim to prominence was an Emmy Award for work on their special on Climate Change.

While studying at UCLA, he worked in the meteorology department researching the earth’s upper atmosphere including computer modeling of the global circulation. It was fascinating to research, and he had hoped to serve in the space program.

Prior to joining KING-TV, Rich worked as a meteorologist for the U.S. Forest Service Northwest Mountain Weather and Avalanche Forecast Center. He offered detailed mountain weather and avalanche forecasts for Oregon and Washington to government and private agencies, as well as the public.

 Rich belongs to the American Geophysical Union,  Oceanographic Society and the Canadian Meteorological, and the American Meteorological Society (and has their Broadcast Seal). He is also a professional representative of the American Avalanche Association, and Board representative Emeritus of the Friends of NWAC. Over the years he has co-authored research papers in scientific journals, including Annals of Glaciology, Nature, Journal of Geoelecticity and Geomagnetism, Solar Physics, and others.
