When he lived in Margate, NJ that’s when he realized his interest in weather. Intent on being a weather journalist, he joined Missouri University.
Segal met an atmospheric sciences major while at Mizzou who taught him a thing or two about the weather and how to broadcast it. Upon graduating, he would get a job with KOMU-TV. For two and a half years he did the noon and weekend weather. In 1978, he moved to KAUZ-TV Wichita Falls. A massive tornado struck his city, one month after he started broadcasting.
He stayed in Wichita Falls until January 1990 when he moved to Denison and did weather for 3 years. There, he also worked as a news director. In 1994 and 1995 is when he started his time with KXAN and KNVA. He filled in during the week and did weekend evening weather. He would return to television weather casting at the 24-hour news service after a brief break. During his free time, you may find him being a public address announcer for the University of Texas soccer and softball teams.
