Apart from being a journalist, he is a proud Life representative of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and serves as the International Director of Publicity for the fraternity. Likewise, Rod is a charter representative of the Sigma Xi Sigma chapter in Tampa and the past 2nd Vice President. Since relocating to Raleigh, he has also represented the NAACP and joined the Eta Sigma Chapter of the fraternity.
Moreover, Rod is a previous president of the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists and the immediate previous Region III Director for the National Association of Black Journalists. He is now a representative of the Raleigh-Durham Chapter of the NABJ.
