He kickstarted his journalism career by working in the United States Navy where he served at Navy Broadcasting detachments based in La Maddalena, Italy, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. During his time in Italy, he also served aboard the U.S.S. Orion (AS-18), home-ported in La Maddalena, and a submarine tender. During his time in La Maddalena, he won Navy public affairs awards for newspaper reporting and broadcast news reporting.
In 1992, he left the Navy and joined KWES-TV based in Midland, Texas where he served as a morning anchor and reporter till his departure in 1995. His next stop was at KNDU-TV in Kennewick, Washington where he worked for 16 years serving as an anchor and reporter. Later, from March 2011 to October 2011, he worked at New York Life Insurance Company where he served as an agent based in Kennewick, Washington.
