Prior to joining WTKR, he served as a reporter for WNCN in Raleigh, North Carolina. While in the Triangle, Zak reported on stories all around the state, including Hurricanes Florence and Dorian and the 2020 primary election. He also reported on assignment in Virginia Beach following the 2019 mass shooting at the city’s municipal center. In the Florida Panhandle, he covered the aftermath of Hurricane Michael.
Before that, Dahlheimer worked as an anchor and investigative reporter at KESQ-TV and CBS Local 2 in Palm Springs, California. While in the Coachella Valley, he reported on wildfires, earthquakes, and high-profile court cases, including the Pinyon Pines triple murder trial, and Turpin child abuse case, and the 2016 deadly Palm Springs tour bus crash. Additionally, Zak also covered the 2016 and 2018 elections and California legalizing recreational marijuana use. While at the University of Florida, he anchored and reported for WUFT News, the PBS and NPR stations serving North Central Florida.
Furthermore, Zak has earned a regional Emmy nomination, as well as numerous awards from the Virginias Associated Press Broadcasters. He has also been awarded by the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC), the Florida Associated Press Broadcasters Association, and the National Broadcasting Society. In addition to that, he is also honored to serve on the Virginia Area Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society. During his free time, he loves playing guitar, traveling, and cheering on the Florida Gators.
