While growing up, Amanda experienced the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons in Sarasota, which were terrifying and inspiring at the same time. This fueled her interest in tracking weather and learning how it worked. For 10 days, she chased tornadoes in the Great Plains and saw three tornadoes. One of them was classified as an EF-2, was half a mile wide, and passed just an eighth of a mile in front of her.
Before joining WFLA News, Amanda worked at WFLA’s sister station, WBTW, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Prior to that, for four years she forecasted in Gainesville, Florida, for the UF Weather Center and the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network. In her free time, she loves to be outside on the water. Additionally, she is actually a huge fan of the humidity, heat, and tropical environment. Moreover, Amanda dives and fishes with her fiance any chance they get on either of their two boats. In addition to that, she enjoys having free space and couldn’t be more excited to be back close to the Space Coast, especially with how frequent launches are becoming.
