Her love for journalism started in 2010 after realizing she loved writing and also an encounter with the KLTV Booth during Kid’s Day that happens yearly in Bergfeld Park. Valdez began a journalism club in school when she was 13 years old and took part in UIL speaking events while she was in junior high and high school. She served as a reporter and anchor during her senior year in Mineola High School News Team. While in college, an active member of the award-winning student media and newspaper called The Drumbeat where she was the broadcast news director, producer, and anchor. She earned an Associate Collegiate Press Pacemaker award and a lot of Texas Intercollegiate Press Association awards.
Valdez is a member of the Kappa Psi honorary band service fraternity where she was the Chapter President during her time at TJC. She is also a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalist, where she was the Chapter President at the University of North Texas.
