Grant shifted to Mobile, Alabama from Nashville, Tennessee in the fall of 2018 to pursue meteorology at the University of South Alabama (USA). Taking a course taught by John Nodar, a News 5 First Alert Storm Team Morning Meteorologist solidified his passion for broadcasting and allowed him to take his talents and skills to the next level. He is delighted to be working alongside his mentor and professor.

Grant did research at the University of South Alabama with Dr. Sytske Kimball on the impacts of near-surface temperature inversions on agricultural locations along the Gulf Coast. He also presented at the American Meteorological Society conference in January 2022 and at the undergraduate research symposium in the USA.

Grant has also operated with USA’s Coastal Weather Research Center to warn businesses including Alabama Power to take precautions during extreme weather. He is a graduate of the University of South Alabama (USA). Throughout his time at the University of South Alabama, he was also heavily active in the USA Jaguar Marching Band where he acted as drum major for his senior and junior seasons.

Grant was also named by the student body as the 2021 Homecoming King. Grant was a one-time intern with the News 5 First Alert Storm Team in the summer of 2021 and would afterward join the team in December of 2021. He has a love for hazardous and severe weather and is prepared to use his experience and knowledge to alert and protect the Gulf Coast. Outside of work, Grant enjoys watching college sports and shows, spending time with friends and family, and playing guitar.
