Harthorn was a finalist for the Tennessee Associated Press Award for Best News Anchor and Short Light Feature in 2017 and 2019. While still in Tennessee, she was an adjunct professor at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, for the Department of Communication. She also served as a community relations director.
Before that, Harthorn worked at WWMT-TV in Kalamazoo, Michigan as a news anchor and reporter from August 2011 to March 2017. While at the station, she was nominated for Health/Science reporting of 3D Mammography in 2016 and for continuing coverage of the cold case murder of Jodi Parrack in 2015. Prior to joining the station, Harthorn worked at WEYI – NBC25 in Clio, Michigan as a news anchor and reporter from June 2010 to August 2011. She won the 2010 Michigan Associated Press Award for Best Individual Reporter. She also won the 2011 State Bar of Michigan Wade McCree Award for her series called Fighting Michigan’s Paternity Act.
Prior to that, she worked at WICZ Fox 40 in Binghamton, New York as a news anchor, investigative reporter, and producer from July 2008 to June 2010. While working there, she won the 2009 New York Associated Press Award for Best News Series about Struggling Dairy Farmers. She also won the 2009 New York State Agricultural Society Cap Creal Journalism Award for the same series. Before that, Harthorn worked at KTWO TV in Casper, Wyoming as a news anchor, assistant news director, executive producer from June 2006 to June 2008.
