Raver began her career at the age of six when appeared on Sesame Street in 1975. In 1995, she played her first eminent role in the Philip Barry play called Holiday alongside Tony Goldwyn and Laura Linney. In 1996, she appeared on the thriller, City Hall alongside Al Pacino. Raver co-starred in the Williamstown Theatre Festival production film, The Glimmer Brothers, alongside David Schwimmer and John Spencer in 1996. She later appeared on the TV series 24, where she played the role of Audrey Raines for 2 seasons.
In 2006, Raver played the role of Kathryn Hale in the ABC TV series, The Nine which was later canceled. She then reprised her role in season 6 of 24. In February 2008, she starred in the NBC TV drama series, Lipstick Jungle playing the role of Nico Reilly. During season 6 of Grey’s Anatomy, Raver joined in the role of Dr. Teddy Altman and later left after three seasons. Her leaving Grey’s Anatomy, for her new job surprised many after the announcement by Shonda Rhimes. In 2014, she reprised her role in 24, as Audrey Boudreau (née Raines) for the episode, Live Another Day. She had a guest appearance on Bones, in the season 11 premiere in 2015. In 2017, she appeared on season 5 of Ray Donovan and returned to Grey’s Anatomy season 14 as Dr. Teddy Altman.
In 2017, she recurred in season 2 of the Designated Survivor, an ABC political drama, in the role of Andrea Frost. It was announced in 2018 May, that she would become a series regular from season 15 of Grey’s Anatomy. Raver is still studying theater with Wynn Handman, her mentor and teacher.
