She jokes that she was about the only ‘Yankees’ to move to those areas since the Civil War despite ‘Southern Hospitality’ having it.

After her graduation, she found herself working and focusing on the sky. She states that the bleak winter landscape was more like that in Buffalo and therefore she wasn’t sad to be saying goodbye to the ‘wind chills.’ Her first stop was the challenge to forecast for the Cumberland Plateau and the Great Smoky Mountains in the East Tennessee region.
However, she states that she wasn’t done with the cold and snow, she, therefore, took her forecasting career to a more lake effect region, “Alberta Clippers” which is what makes winters famous in Chicago. Later on, the opportunity of a lifetime came to pass and helped her test her skills against the microclimates of the Bay Area.
She states that she will never forget that summer and the June fog that welcomed her home in the year 1995. This is just as exciting as the December 1995 wind storm that slammed the Bay Area. Additionally, the Jewel Box in Golden Gate Park was destroyed and giant redwoods near her homes swayed but luckily they did not fall. Her newborn and their little family had to huddle together as over 100mph winds slammed into their house. Later on, she shared several days without power with her new neighbors’ friends and colleagues. This to her was quite a bonding experience.
To her, her biggest weather challenge was the El Nino winter of the year 1997. The tremendous Pacific storms brought drenching rains and damage to the Bay Area. She states that she doesn’t think she has ever seen that kind of rain that was that hard in her life. That year saw her being honored for the second time with an award for forecasting by the Bay Area Women in Radio and Television.
After her break to Hawaii, she happened to develop a case of island fever and slid into the weekends at the ABC7. She also states that she is grateful to be back home and be part of the outstanding weather team at KGO-TV.
