Rod has become an expert in business and bankruptcy and municipal turnaround efforts following spending years leading Local 4’s coverage of the financial difficulties of the City of Detroit and Wayne County and the automotive industry meltdown. As Business Editor he has also earned the International Wheel Award for Excellence in Automotive Journalism. One of his objectives was to be able to explain personal finance and business authoritatively to anyone.
To that end, Rod became the first ever working journalist in the nation to pass the incredibly difficult Certified Financial Plannerâ„¢ Professional exam and then go on to achieve Certified Financial Plannerâ„¢ status. Rod serves as a board member of the Automotive Press Association in Detroit and also sits on the Board of the Oakland University Center for Business Excellence.
He has also taken up running as a member of his responsibilities as honorary Co-Chair of the annual Julie Run aiding the Open Door Outreach Center. Open Door is a giving program started through St. Patrick’s Church in White Lake, the Meloni family parish. All three of Rod’s daughters enrolled at St. Patrick’s School. He is also a member of the St. Patrick Church Knights of Columbus.
