He started working for NBC 12 in Richmond, Virginia after he finished his college education and then joined WPHL in Philadelphia where he worked as a Chief Meteorologist. Afterward, he worked at KXAS, the NBC-owned station in Dallas, Texas for six years.MacLaughlin was lucky to have a chance to fill in at MSNBC, CNBC, The Weather Channel, and PIX 11 in New York City.
MacLaughlin has earned five Emmy awards; currently, he has won the 2021 Award for “Best Weathercast” and an Award in 2019 for “Outstanding Weathercaster”. He has been selected sixteen times. Also, he’s won an Associated Press Award for “Best Weathercaster”.
He hosted the annual galas for The Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida, Equality Florida, and Latinos Salud in 2021.
