Haynes works with FOX 5 Atlanta News/WAGA-TV where he serves the station as an Evening Anchor. Prior to joining the FOX 5 News team, he was working with WSVN, a FOX affiliate in Miami. When he was there, he was part of the station’s primary anchor team and was also reporting for the station’s evening newscasts.
Haynes moved from the anchor desk and went on to do live reporting where he has covered a wide range of stories. In his time at the FOX 5 Atlanta News team, he had been front and center of major elections. This includes field anchoring from storm-ravaged parts of the state during the fiery collapse of I-85. He has also anchored live from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. There, a gunman carried out the worst school shooting in United States history. He has also traveled to interview notable television personalities such as Judge Judy, Sean Hannity, and Bill O’Reilly.
In his time as an anchor and reporter for CNN, he was on-air in the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Asides from this, he has covered the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. During his time in Miami, he reported on the unprecedented 200 and 2005 Atlantic hurricane seasons that battered the Gulf Coast.
Haynes also reported from Panama before he handed over the Panama Canal in the year 1999. Some of his other career highlights include a profile of undersea explorer Sylvia Earle during a deep-water dive in Dry Tortugas National Park and reporting live from Boston on Election Night 2004.
Haynes kick-started his career in journalism in the year 199 when he was serving as a production assistant for CNN’s Larry King Live. Afterward, he moved to CNN’s world headquarters in Atlanta where he was serving as an anchor, producer, and reporter. Aside from this, he has received national recognition for his work. This includes winning an Emmy Award, a Beacon Award for hosting a live town hall meeting following the first debate of the 2000 presidential election, and a Prism commendation for his CNN series “Drugs: Perceptions, Realities.” Away from work, he enjoys all that the Atlanta community has to offer and works to stay in shape at the gym.
