Tony Schumacher has resided and worked in Wisconsin his entire life. He developed a sharp interest in the weather as a teenager on his family’s dairy farm near Dorchester, Wisconsin. Watching how the weather greatly impacted their livestock and crops left a deep impression on him. He has reported every possible type of Midwest weather situation, many times over, in his 30-year weather forecasting profession.
After graduating, Tony commenced his career in 1993 as a staff meteorologist for Great Lakes Weather Service and WSAW-TV in Wausau, Wisconsin. He quickly moved up to serve as chief meteorologist at WSAW.
From 1997 to 1999, Tony worked in the Green Bay area, for WFRV-TV, which gave him additional experience in dealing with the effects of the Great Lakes on weather patterns. In March 1999, he returned to Wausau to be a chief meteorologist at WAOW-TV and pursue a purchase of the Great Lakes Weather Service.
When Tony is not taking care of his clients and the TV weather duties, he enjoys consuming time with the family’s dogs and cats. Also, he owns a flock of chickens! Tony enjoys playing trumpets and various sports such as softball, biking, ice skating, and cross-country skiing. He is the leader of a 4-H club and is devoted to his church. Oh, and he really enjoys growing trees and gardening. Tony has planted dozens of collections of trees on his parcel of land out in the country. His favorites are homemade grape juice, squash, and currant jelly. Tony looks forward to meeting as many of the Newsline 9 audiences as possible over the upcoming years.
