When Waverle was 16 years old, she was diagnosed with kidney failure while she was still in her junior year at Burke HighSchool. She immediately started treatment and went on dialysis while she was hoping and waiting for a donor from the organ transplant list. She found a donor six months later and she received her new kidney on December 29, 2010 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. In an interview wit Omahamagazine.com, she stated that she celebrates it every year as a birthday because it not only gave her life back but this perspective on not to take life for granted.
In July 2022, Waverle shared that she was battling cancer stage 1 through a post she made on social media. On July 12, 2022, she posted on her Twitter stating, “I have cancer and I’ve been in the hospital since Tuesday (7/5). I’m going to fight this diagnosis with a massive smile on my face and a f***ing positive attitude. Why? Well, why not? I hope to be back on the 📺 soon ♥️ (I’ll post updates as much as I can).”
Fortunately, on November 8, 2022, her doctor confirmed that she was cancer free and Monroe shared the story through a post she made on her Instagram on November 8th, 2023 which was captioned, “11/8/2022: I nervously walked into the Nebraska Medicine ‘s Buffett Cancer Center. Then my oncologist said it !REMISSION!…”
