A 19-year Major League veteran and two-time World Series champion, Leiter was a member of MLB Network’s original on-air talent roster. He earned Sports Emmy Award nominations in the Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Analyst category in 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016 for his work on MLB Network. Leiter also was a color commentator for YES Network and previously served as a Postseason game analyst for ESPN and FOX Sports.
In 1987, Leiter was drafted by the New York Yankees and debuted with the club. He went on to pitch for the Toronto Blue Jays (1989-1995), New York Mets (1998-2004), and Florida Marlins (1996-1997 and 2005) prior to retiring as a Yankee in 2005 with a 162-132 record and 3.80 ERA. Al won World Series rings with the Blue Jays (1993) and Marlins (1997) and served as an NL All-Star in 1996 and 2000.
He threw the first no-hitter in Marlins franchise record on May 11, 1996, against the Colorado Rockies, and he was the first pitcher to achieve a victory against all 30 Major League teams. Leiter arrived at the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 2023. He earned the Roberto Clemente Award in 2000 for philanthropic efforts and his community service.
