Following starting twenty-nine games in 2013 for the Boston Red Sox, Ryan closed out Game 1 of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, on the way to the Red Sox’s 3rd championship in a decade. He now serves as a special advisor to the Chicago Cubs.
Dempster also received the James “Tip” O’Neill Award in 2000 from the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, and he was named the Chicago Cubs’ nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award for community service in 2006 and 2008. Born and raised in Gibsons, British Columbia, Ryan was inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
