She began her journey with ABC7 News when she was still a small child. Dion states that two immigrants from Hong and Taiwan wanted her to learn how to speak “proper” English. She would also sit in front of the TV to watch ABC’s 20/20. Her heroes at the time were Barbara Walters and Hugh Downs. Later on, as she was growing older, it struck her that she could also give others a voice as the two did.

Her former mentors from her high school teacher, Mr. Lewis, and another Mr. Lewis who was a news director at a station in Hartford, Connecticut helped give her a start as a student reporter. Lim’s journey in journalism has taken her from ground zero after hurricanes and tornadoes to broadcasting in a booth next to Michelle Obama at the Democratic National Convention and again to Hollywood for red-carpet TV show premieres.

She counts it a privilege to have been voted “Best Morning Anchor” and “Best TV Personality” by different publications in Kansas and Charlotte. She states that from neighborhoods of multimillion-dollar homes to mobile home parks, the flames showed no mercy. The victims of the fire took to the streets as they dazed and were covered in thick black ash. She states that the air was so thick with smoke that it was burning the lungs and tears would stream down people’s faces. Despite the chaos and gut-wrenching sadness, being able to tell the stories was an honor and a privilege for her as it reminded her of why she got into the crazy TV news business in the first place.
