Von is an anchor and reporter for WKMG. He is a two-time Emmy award-winning journalist in the prestigious and coveted “On-Camera Talent” categories for both anchoring and reporting. Ancken joined the station days after the tragic loss of the space shuttle Columbia. From then, Erik has covered almost every shuttle launch at Kennedy Space Center, including the final Space Shuttle launch and landing in 2011 and the Return to Flight mission of Shuttle Discovery in 2005.
Erik is among the only handful of journalists in the world to have sat in the commander’s seat on the flight deck of Space Shuttle Atlantis. Since the beginning, Ancken has covered and continues to cover the next phase of America’s space program: the design, construction, and test flight of the deep-space Orion capsule. Erik got the ride of his life in the back seat of an F-16 with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds in 2014. Prior to joining WKMG, Ancken worked at ABC 7 WWSB-TV from May 2000 to February 2003 as a reporter. He also worked as a reporter at WMBC-TV 63 News from 1998 to 20000.
