Before moving to WKMG News 6, he worked at Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable) in Raleigh, North Carolina from September 2007 to September 2016 where he served as a sports reporter and anchor. Prior to that, Welch worked as a sports reporter and anchor at WMTW in Portland, Maine from August 2003 to May 2007.
Ryan started his career at WVII/WFVX BANGOR the ABC affiliate in Bangor, Maine from July 2002 to August 2003. He enjoys being able to put his storytelling talents to use for sports, specifically shining lights on individuals or teams that don’t typically get the attention they deserve.
Away from his work, Welch’s tastes are a little old school including, Steely Dan, Kurt Vonnegut, and “Seinfeld” are among his favorites. He credits his native state for being a bit of a “homer” when it comes to favorite teams. Above all, he pulls for the BC Eagles–in good times and in bad.
