After graduating with a degree in journalism, Burns interned at the National Hurricane Center in Miami, working with Dr. Joseph Pellissier, and Dr. Neil Frank. He then moved to work for WPTV-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he served as the chief meteorologist. Glenn has managed to receive several awards including from the Red Cross, Best of Cobb Magazine and Best of Atlanta Magazine, Civil Defense and Coast Guard, Associated Press, and Best of Gwinnett Magazine for his weather coverage.
After three years of working in Florida, Burns started his post-graduate work in astrophysics working as chief meteorologist for KARE-TV in Minneapolis, at the University of Minnesota. While in his stay there Glenn managed to win several awards including the Minnesota Teacher’s Award for a program. This involved students, teachers, and KARE-TV in a weather education series. The program finally evolved into Weather School.
Burns joined WSB-TV in 1981. Glenn has won several awards while at WSB-TV, including; Best of Cobb, Best of Gwinnett, Best of Atlanta, and Associated Press Weathercaster of the Year. He has also been nominated for numerous Emmy Awards. Glenns is a member of the American Meteorological Society and holds the new CBM (Certified Broadcast Meteorologist) Seal of Approval. Burns and his wife Susan participate in many many area charities, including Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, the Center for Family Resources, the Starlight Foundation, and the March of Dimes. Burns enjoys hiking, fishing, and looking at the planets and stars with his telescope.
