Jim Lokay Work Experience

Lokay works with the FOX5 team where he is working as an evening anchor for the 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts and as a host. Since he was a kid, he had the desire to be a reporter and had an obsession with being near a microphone. He would make any excuse to make announcements over the loudspeaker at the bowling alley which his dad ran for years. If this passion had not foreshadowed where he would be thirty years later, he states that he doesn’t know what would have given it away.

Additionally, growing up, he also had a dream of being a president and states that some junior high yearbooks might be written “Jim Laky, the 45th President of the United States.” However, he opted to join the radio and television world on the day he arrived on the campus of the California University of Pennsylvania and since then he has never looked back.

Prior to FOX 5 News, he was working as an anchor/reporter for WCVB-TV where he worked between October 2011 and November 2015. At one point, somebody told him he looked like a sports guy although he was only playing bowling and mini-golf games. So in relation to this, he went right into covering the dozens of high school football teams in the Western Pennsylvania region. In addition, he did play-by-play for the California University Athletics. However, during the 2000 elections, his passion switched to news.

For about two years, he ran the overnight operations for a radio news operation in Pittsburgh. There, he worked each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Then he was anchoring, writing, and editing for several stations. Then he was covering some Pittsburgh Pirates games for a sports radio station.

From there, I moved to the snowy abyss of upstate New York to work for Time Warner’s 24-hour news operation in Syracuse. I did everything from reporting and anchoring to (once again) covering high school football. Don’t get me wrong – I loved my time there, but during my first winter there, I dug out through 181 inches of snow. Later on, he moved to upstate New York where he was working for Time Warner’s 24-hour news operation in Syracuse. Then he did everything from reporting and anchoring to covering high school football again.

Later on, after a few years, he fulfilled his lifetime dream of working in his hometown. There, he spent about six years working for KDKA-TV; located in Pittsburgh. He was hired as a traffic reporter but soon after he found himself on the anchor desk and also in the field. He was also co-hosting a Pittsburgh Steelers pre-game show with Ryan Clark, Antwaan Randle-El, and Hines Ward, where he was doing an intermission report for the Pittsburg Penguins preseason games. There, he covered one Stanley Cup parade, the 2006 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, two Superbowl parades, and the 2011 Winter Classic between the Pens and the Caps.

Among his hardest decisions to make was leaving Pittsburgh. However, in 2011, he was hired as a news and sports anchor/reporter by the WCVB station. Immediately, he had a front-row seat to some of the biggest news stories of the generation. In addition, he was among the first anchors on air when the bombs went off at the Boston Marathon finish line and where he covered the city’s come-back. He also spent several days reporting the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. There he covered about everything and even had his own series where he profiled exceptional high school seniors who were battling back from life challenges.

Among the things he has learned to expect in the news, business is don’t expect anything. This was while often they found themselves covering stories that they would rather not cover. In addition, they also get a chance to bring light to the community and also share the good news.
