Jonathan is an award-winning journalist and has been acknowledged both locally and nationally for covering and reporting stories. He also heads up the 7Salutes beat, where he is always looking for stories about men and women who are or have served in the military.

Before working at ABC7/WJLA-TV, Elias worked at WBZ in Boston as a primary anchor and lead reporter. On the day of the Boston Marathon bombings, he was the sole reporter standing at the finish line. His coverage won him the highest journalism awards in the business, a Peabody, a DuPont, and a National Emmy Award. While in Boston Elias was honored with Emmy Awards for being the best anchor and writer, and for four years in a row the best general assignment reporter. Heeported hurricanes, blizzards, and parades for the Bruins, Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots.

Before Boston, Elias served as the main anchor at KNXV in Phoenix. He traveled the country reporting big stories including Hurricane Rita, Hurricane Katrina, and the Washington D.C. sniper case. His investigative effort exposed a gaping hole in the T.S.A. screening process and earned him a national Peabody Award. Elias also commenced the Welcome Home Project — a group that worked to acknowledge and thank returning Purple Heart Veterans.

During his career, Elias served as a reporter in Birmingham and Joplin, and as a primary anchor at KCBS in Los Angeles, and WCCO in Minneapolis. He has reported on essential stories including the L.A. Riots, the crash of TWA 800, the Oklahoma City bombing, and the Oakland Hills fire. He’s reported hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, and politics.

His effort has been recognized with three George Foster Peabody Awards, a National Emmy, 30 Regional Emmys, and an Alfred I. DuPont Award.  In addition to his job as a journalist Jonathan has operated as an Honorary Commander at Hanscom Air Force Base for 3 years, and for more than 10 years has operated as an instructor at the U.S. Army War College. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, golfing, reading, working out, and searching for the perfect BBQ.
