Royce expects to see effects from every story he tells. One of his favorite Ohio Valley stories was about assisting four dogs, fleeing the devastation of Hurricane Florence, to find forever homes. They were looking for refuge at a local animal shelter and were each adopted soon after his story aired.
Royce is no stranger to the KDKA newsroom as he interned for KDKA in college. He had a four-year internship via the Emma Bowen Foundation, a non-profit organization for communications scholars of color. He would return each summer and perform full-time in the newsroom. As an intern, Royce reported on many stories for the station including protests for Antwon Rose II, breaking news, court, crime, the American Federation of Teachers Convention, weather, and more. His favorite story as an intern was the “Art of the Brick” exhibit at the Carnegie Science Center highlighting dozens of sculptures made entirely of Lego bricks! Royce also served as a fill-in KDKA Assignments Editor on occasion.
His internship was cut short, as he took his Anchor/MMJ gig as a junior in college in the Ohio Valley. Royce studied Broadcasting journalism at Point Park University. While there, he anchored, produced, hosted, and reported for countless shows on the school’s television station “UView.” Royce has also been posted in the school’s online newspaper “Point Park News Service.”
