At age 40, the Houston Astros employed Porter as their manager in 2013, making him the youngest manager in MLB at the moment, a role he would have for the next two seasons.
From 2016 to 2017, Porter served as the special assistant to the general manager for the Atlanta Braves, prior to assuming the position of Director of Player Development and Youth Initiative for the Major League Baseball Players Association from 2018 through 2019. He has most recently acted as the Director of Coaching Development for MLB since February 2021. His broadcast experience in 2014 includes guest analyst work with MLB Network, plus a recurring role with MASN covering the Nationals in 2019 and 2020.
