Hughes works at WPLG-Local 10 as an anchor/reporter. He co-anchors the station’s weekday 4, 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts. In mid-2010, Calvin shifted from the morning and noontime anchor position to a nighttime co-anchor slot.

Prior to working at Local 10, he worked at KYW-TV, the CBS station in Philadelphia since November 2003 where he anchored the weekend newscasts and served as a weekday night side reporter. While there, Calvin Covered several national stories, including the Live 8 Concert and Amish schoolhouse shootings.

Before KYW-TV,  he worked in Atlanta (WGCL-TV from 1999 to October 2002, where he served with Jane Robelot), Dallas (KXAS-TV, 1995–99), Lexington, Evansville, Indiana (WTVW), Kentucky (WKYT-TV), as an anchor and reporter. At 19, Hughes commenced reporting for the local radio station KBIA in Columbia, Missouri, while still a student at the University of Missouri. He is a representative of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity
