Before returning to Richmond in August 2019, Bree worked as an investigative reporter and evening anchor in Birmingham, Alabama, home of the 20th Special Forces Group.
Born and raised in the Tidewater area, Bree earned a scholarship to study politics and mass communications at Virginia Commonwealth University. She interned at WTVR in 2006 and launched her career in TV news. For three years Bree served as a one-man-band anchor and reporter at WMBB in Panama City, Florida. Later, she operated as the morning anchor for WEAR in Pensacola, where she covered the Gulf Oil Spill of 2010 from the ground and from the air. Field anchoring live for about two months straight, Bree kept spectators up to date on where the oil was and what the Coast Guard and BP were doing to protect the beach. She also served as a General Assignment anchor and Reporter at WBZ, the CBS-owned station, for four years.
During that time, Bree encircled the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary school, the manhunt and recovery, the Boston Marathon bombing, the case against Aaron Hernandez, a Red Sox World Series win, Deflategate, a deadly nationwide meningitis outbreak, a Patriots Super Bowl win, and approximately 75 snow storms too many. Bree also dug into the myriad of matters enveloping mental health, developing an award-winning series named “Matters of the Mind.”
An avid sports lover(#LetsGoVCU), Bree’s fun and light-hearted demeanor aided earn her a New England EMMY Nomination for stories about the Red Sox World Series win in 2013. Additionally, she worked as an integral part of a news team that received a National EMMY for breaking news, Alfred I. DuPont Award & a Peabody Award in 2014. Bree has also been acknowledged with multiple awards from levels in the communities she’s lived and volunteered.
